CGI Energy-Efficient Windows in Miami: What to Know First

CGI energy-efficient window service in Miami typically runs $185-$480 per window for glass replacement, Low-E upgrades, and seal repair, and we can usually diagnose and complete most jobs within one visit. If the frame is still solid, you rarely need a full replacement. The honest answer is that about 70% of the CGI windows we’re called out for in Miami can be restored to full energy performance without tearing out the frame. Ed Winslow has been doing this work since 2011, and our technicians know CGI’s product lines from the original Estate Series to the current Sentinel and Estate 2.0 platforms. Call (863) 946-5039 and a real person answers, any hour, any day.

How CGI Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

Every window brand has its own set of recurring issues, and CGI is no exception. The failure patterns below are the ones our techs see repeatedly across Miami neighborhoods from Kendall to Aventura to Coral Gables. Knowing which one you’re dealing with determines whether you need a glass swap, a seal repair, or something in between.

  • Sentinel Series insulated glass seal failure along the lower sash. Miami’s humidity plus daily thermal cycling causes the desiccant in CGI’s double-pane units to saturate faster than the manufacturer’s lab tests suggest. The symptom is fogging or condensation between panes that comes and goes. The real issue is often a compromised secondary seal where the sash meets the glass, not the glass pack itself. We remove the sash, inspect the glazing channel, replace the failed IGU with a Low-E/argon unit matched to the original sightline, and rebed it so the seal isn’t fighting South Florida’s moisture from day one.
  • Estate Series aluminum frame thermal transfer at the corner keys. CGI’s older Estate Series single-hung windows are workhorses structurally, but the corner keys were never designed as thermal breaks. In older Miami homes these windows conduct heat straight through the corners, which is why the wall feels warm three inches from the frame in August. We add a closed-cell thermal barrier at the frame corner joints and swap the original monolithic glass for insulated laminated Low-E units. It doesn’t change the look of the window, but the difference at the perimeter is measurable.
  • Sentinel Series rolling patio door glass-to-frame alignment drift. This is one you won’t find on CGI’s website. As the concrete slab settles and shifts in Miami’s limestone-heavy soil, the door panel gradually moves out of square. The first sign isn’t visual. It’s the faint whistle of air movement along the interlock on a windy day and energy bills that creep up month over month. We realign the roller assemblies, reset the panel to a true square, and recompress the weatherstripping. If the glass pack has delaminated from the drift, we replace it with an energy-rated unit at the same time.
  • Estate 2.0 casement hardware wear allowing the sash to drop slightly at the hinge side. When a casement sash drops even an eighth of an inch, the weather seal at the top corner opens enough to leak conditioned air. Energy-wise, it performs like a window left cracked all summer. The cause is almost always hinge wear escalated by Miami’s salt air near the coast. We don’t just tighten hinges. We replace the worn frictions with correct-tension hardware and then tune the sash so it closes with even compression across all four seals.
  • IGU seal failure from pressure-pitting on impact glass. Miami sees more micro-debris hits on impact-rated glass than anywhere else in Florida. Most homes will experience small surface pits on the outer lite over time. Most of these don’t penetrate the interlayer, but they create expansion points where heat and moisture can work on the edge seal. If you run a fingernail across the glass and can feel pitting, the unit’s lifespan is shorter than the warranty mathematically suggests. We’ll pressure-test the unit, and if the edge seal is breathing, we replace it with a current-spec CGI-compatible IGU before you lose argon and insulation value entirely.

Our CGI Energy-Efficient Windows Process

Here’s what actually happens from the first call to the last wipe-down. No mystery, no show-and-hope. This is the same process for every CGI job, whether you’re in Coconut Grove or out near Doral.

  1. 1
You call (863) 946-5039. A live person answers, 24/7. We ask what the window is doing, take your address, and we schedule a time that works. No call centers, no hold music.
  2. 2
On-site diagnosis. A background-checked, uniformed technician arrives and goes window by window with you. We identify the specific failure, measure the glass pack, check the frame’s thermal break, and take moisture readings where seal issues are suspected. You get a straight answer on what’s wrong, not a sales pitch.
  3. 3
The parts decision. For some CGI work, original equipment is non-negotiable. For insulated glass units and certain hardware components, quality aftermarket options from a few vetted fabricators match or exceed OEM specs and cost meaningfully less. We tell you which is which, explain the trade-off, and you decide with real numbers in front of you.
  4. 4
The repair or replacement, done clean. We handle the full job, whether it’s a single sash rebuild or a whole-home glass replacement. Drop cloths at the window, shoes on rooflines where needed, and the work is done at the window, not in the middle of your living room.
  5. 5
We test in front of you. A candle or smoke pencil at the seal, a hand on the glass on a hot Miami afternoon, and you see the difference before we pack up. If it doesn’t pass, we redo it.
  6. 6
You get the receipt, the warranty, and Ed’s word. Every CGI job we do carries the 36500-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we come back and make it right. A century-long standard doesn’t expire and neither does our accountability.

What CGI Energy-Efficient Windows Costs in Miami

Real numbers help you decide, so here’s what we see in this market. These ranges reflect current Miami-area pricing for independent CGI service, not manufacturer-direct or big-box installer quotes.

Scenario Typical Range
Insulated glass unit replacement (Low-E, argon), standard size $185-$340 per window
Sentinel or Estate 2.0 full sash rebuild with energy glass $410-$710 per window
Whole-home glass replacement (8-12 windows) $2,200-$5,200
Thermal barrier retrofit on Estate Series frames (per opening) $120-$260
Sliding patio door glass and alignment service $780-$1,600
Window energy audit (no modification) Free with any repair over $200

What moves the price: sash size, whether the frame needs thermal correction, and whether you choose OEM or quality aftermarket glass. What doesn’t move it: the invoice after the initial quote. Upfront pricing means the number we quote is the number you pay. Call (863) 946-5039 for a free estimate, and if you have a written estimate from another contractor, we’ll give you a second opinion on it for free.

Why Miami Homeowners Call Winslow Windows & Doors for CGI Work

When a Miami homeowner with CGI windows calls us, it’s usually because they’ve already learned what most of the country doesn’t: CGI builds serious windows, but Miami’s heat, storms, and salt air still find the weak points. Our techs know the difference between a CGI failure and an installation mistake, and we don’t upsell you on a full replacement when a glass pack and a thermal barrier will do the job for half the money. We’ve been doing this in South Florida since 2011, which means we’ve seen just about every model and every installation quirk that CGI has put out. And if a window is genuinely beyond saving, we’re authorized installers for PGT, CWS, ES Windows, and ECO Window Systems too, so you’re not starting a new search from a blank browser tab. Ed Winslow’s name is on the door, and he’s the one who answers the phone. The one down the road.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."
