CWS Window Replacement: The Miami Owner’s Guide

If you have a CWS window with a failed part, we stock CWS-compatible replacement hardware and glass, and in most cases we can complete the swap the same day we arrive. Installed replacement for a typical CWS window part runs $145 to $480 in Miami depending on whether it’s a balance, hinge set, latch, or full sash replacement. Most owners figure out something’s wrong when the window won’t stay open, won’t lock, or starts letting in the kind of humidity that makes a Miami afternoon feel like it’s inside the house.

Call (863) 946-5039

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS, but we’ve been installing and repairing their windows across Miami-Dade since 2011. That’s long enough to know which parts fail first and which replacements actually hold up in this climate.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS produces several window lines, and the replacement part you need depends on which series is installed. Most Miami homes we service have CWS single-hung, horizontal roller, or casement windows. The quickest way to identify your model: look for the etched or printed label on the top edge of the sash or the inside of the frame. It’ll list the series and often the manufacturing date.

If the label is worn off, which happens fast in coastal salt air, measure the visible glass width to the nearest eighth inch and check the corner construction. CWS single-hung balances are sized by sash weight and are not interchangeable with generic box-store replacements. On horizontal rollers, the wheel diameter matters more than the wheel brand: CWS typically uses 1-1/4 inch nylon wheels on older series and 1-1/2 inch on newer ones. We carry both on the truck.

For the OEM versus aftermarket decision: genuine CWS parts preserve exact fit and color match, but we’ve found high-quality aftermarket balances and rollers from manufacturers like Amesbury and Truth hold up as well or better in Miami’s humidity, often for 20 to 30 percent less. We’ll tell you which makes sense for your window. We won’t sell you an OEM part just because the name on the box matches the name on the frame.

Signs Your CWS Window Replacement Is Failing

  • Window slams shut or won’t stay open. The balance system has lost tension or a spiral balance has stripped. This is the most common CWS failure we see in Miami, usually after 8 to 12 years of daily use and humidity cycling.
  • Hard to slide or drags across the track. The roller wheels have flattened or corroded. Coastal salt air accelerates this, and once a nylon wheel flat-spots, the window grinds and eventually binds entirely.
  • Lock won’t engage or feels loose. The keeper and latch are misaligned, worn, or the frame has shifted slightly. A window that doesn’t lock is also a security issue, especially on ground-floor Miami windows.
  • Visible gap or daylight at the seal when closed. Weatherstripping has compressed or torn, or the sash has dropped on one side. This is how humidity and afternoon thunderstorms sneak into the house.
  • Crank turns but nothing moves (casement windows). The gear mechanism inside the operator has stripped. You’ll hear clicking or feel free play in the handle. Replacement operators are available for most CWS casement series.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge for common CWS window part replacements in Miami, installed:

  • Balance replacement: $160 to $280 per window, including both balances and labor.
  • Roller replacement: $60 to $140 per window, including all four wheels and track cleaning.
  • Lock and keeper set: $45 to $110 installed, depending on finish and series.
  • Weatherstripping replacement: $40 to $90 per window for full perimeter replacement.
  • Full sash replacement (glass included): $280 to $480 for standard sizes, more for oversized or impact-rated sashes.

The price you’re quoted is the price you pay. We write it down before work starts, and there are no change orders at the end of the job. Every CWS replacement we install carries our workmanship warranty, and if it’s not done right, we come back and make it right. That’s the 36500-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s been our standard since day one in 2011.

Miami’s climate drives these costs two ways: salt air means more roller and hardware corrosion, and the humidity means weatherstripping gives out years earlier than it would anywhere else. We factor local conditions into our pricing so you don’t pay for a generic national estimate that doesn’t apply to life on this coast.

DIY or Call Us?

If you’re comfortable popping out the sash and inspecting, you can check a few things safely: looseness in the handle, visible roller flat-spotting, weatherstripping that crumbles when touched. That’ll give you a sense of what’s wrong before you call.

Where we draw the line: CWS single-hung balances hold real spring tension, and removing a loaded balance without the right tool can send parts flying. It’s also easy to crack a vinyl frame corner if you don’t release the sash correctly. If your window has a balance problem, we’d rather you call us than end up replacing the whole frame because a $20 part got yanked out wrong. Same goes for any window on a second story or above a tile roof. We’re at (863) 946-5039. A live person answers.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."
