ES Windows Window Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide

Replacing an ES Windows unit in Miami typically costs $850 to $2,400 installed, depending on size, series, and whether you need impact-rated glass. We stock ES Windows-compatible hardware and weatherstripping on our trucks so most installations happen in a single visit. Most owners find us because a window suddenly won’t seal, a crank handle snapped, or water started pooling on the sill after a heavy afternoon storm rolled through Kendall.

Ed Winslow grew up in Hialeah, where summer storms rolling off the Everglades taught him early that a bad window wasn’t just an eyesore, it was a liability. That’s the lens we bring to every ES Windows job in Miami, Dade County, and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Which ES Windows Models This Applies To

ES Windows builds three main lines you’ll see in Miami homes: the ES100 Series (single-hung and fixed, aluminum frame), the ES200 Series (double-hung and horizontal roller, the most common in condos from Brickell to Doral), and the ES700 Series (heavy-duty impact-rated, built for coastal exposure). The part you need depends on which series your window belongs to, and that’s where a lot of Miami owners get led astray by generic parts sites.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into constantly: ES200 series balances and pivot shoes are not interchangeable with ES100 parts, even when the window dimensions match. The shoe channel depth differs by 3/16 inch. We see homeowners order what they think is the right part online, then discover the shoe binds in the track. ES Windows stamps the series number on a small label inside the top track, usually visible when you tilt the sash in. Take a photo of it before you order anything.

For replacement glass, we always recommend OEM or Miami-Dade County NOA-approved impact glass rather than off-brand equivalents. ES Windows frames are engineered around specific glass thicknesses, and swapping in a generic insulated unit can void the frame’s wind-load rating. That matters when a named storm heads toward Biscayne Bay.

Signs Your ES Windows Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash won’t stay up. This is almost always a failed block-and-tackle balance inside the jamb. On ES200 double-hungs in Miami, the nylon cord inside those balances degrades faster than the metal, and once it snaps, the sash drops. The fix is a new balance pair, and it’s worth doing both sides while we’re in there.
  • You hear a grinding or clicking sound when cranking. On ES100 casement inserts, the gear teeth inside the operator strip under repeated torque. Miami’s humidity accelerates corrosion on the gear housing once the factory grease dries out.
  • Condensation or haze between the glass panes. That’s a blown seal on the insulated glass unit. Once the desiccant inside the spacer is saturated, which happens faster in South Florida’s humidity, the only real fix is a new IGU, not a reseal.
  • Water pooling on the interior sill after rain. The weep system at the bottom of the frame can clog with salt residue and pollen. More often, the weatherstripping at the meeting rail has compressed flat. Either way, water getting behind the frame is a fast track to mold in Miami heat.
  • You can feel a breeze through a closed window. On high-rise condos along Brickell or Edgewater, wind creates positive pressure against the exterior, and worn pile weatherstripping or a bent interlock hook lets air whistle through. That’s also your air conditioning bill climbing every month.

If you spot any of these, call us at (863) 946-5039. A quick phone description usually tells us which series you have and whether we need to bring a replacement sash or can rebuild what’s in the frame.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what ES Windows installation work costs in Miami right now, installed, with labor and disposal included:

  • Balance replacement (pair): $85-$150
  • Crank operator and handle replacement: $110-$190
  • Weatherstripping replacement (full perimeter): $95-$175
  • Insulated glass unit (IGU) replacement, standard sizes: $350-$800
  • Impact-rated IGU replacement, ES700 series: $900-$2,400
  • Full sash replacement (ES200 double-hung): $450-$850

The wide range on glass comes down to two things: whether your building requires Miami-Dade NOA-certified impact glass, and the size of the unit. A 36×60 impact IGU costs what it costs, and we’d rather show you the invoice than pad it. Every quote we give is a written line-item estimate with no change orders unless you change the scope. And our workmanship warranty stands behind every installation.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely clean the tracks, check for loose handles, and confirm your series number on the label. That’s about where it stops. Window balances are under spring tension, and a block-and-tackle system releasing suddenly can take off a thumbnail or worse. Impact glass units weigh over 50 pounds for most sizes, and setting one into an ES700 frame on the 18th floor of a Brickell condo isn’t a weekend project. If your window involves tempered or laminated glass, a cracked frame, or a balance that won’t release, call a pro. Call us at (863) 946-5039 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a repair or a replacement, and what it should cost before anyone schedules a visit.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★

"Excellent work and a fair price for what it is, though impact glass is never cheap and one bedroom window arrived with a scratched pane. Ed flagged it before I saw it and the replacement went in without me chasing anyone."

BBartholomew Crenshaw
★★★★★

"Ed measured every opening himself and walked me through the product approval paperwork before I signed anything. When the inspector came he found the notice of acceptance taped inside a window like it should be and passed us first visit."

RRosalind Beaumont
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."
