Mr-Glass builds several window lines, and the parts aren’t always interchangeable between them. The three series we see most often in Miami homes are the 7000 Series single-hung, the 8000 Series horizontal roller, and the impact-rated 9000 Series. Each uses different balance systems, roller sizes, and lock hardware, so matching the right part to the right series matters more than matching a brand name.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most Miami homeowners run into: Mr-Glass windows sold before 2016 often used a 5/8-inch roller assembly on the horizontal sliders, while newer 8000 Series units switched to a 3/4-inch roller. If you order the old part number without measuring the roller housing, you’ll get the wrong piece and lose a week. We always check the physical measurement, not just the model sticker, before we quote a part. The model label is usually on the top rail of the sash or inside the frame track, and it lists the series number and sometimes the glass size. If the label’s worn off, the glass dimensions etched in the corner of the pane work as a fallback.

Most Mr-Glass hardware is still available as OEM, and for a current-model window under a manufacturer warranty, OEM is the right call. For older Mr-Glass units where OEM has been discontinued, we source aftermarket equivalents from suppliers we’ve vetted over years of Miami installs. Signs Your Mr-Glass Window Installation Is Failing

• Condensation between the panes that won’t wipe off. This means the insulated glass unit seal has failed. In Miami’s humidity, a failed seal turns into visible fog within weeks, and the window loses its insulating value permanently. The fix is a new IGU, not a repair.
• A crank or slider that works but feels like it’s grinding. The roller or pivot hardware is worn or corroded. Miami’s salt air accelerates this considerably compared to inland Florida. Left alone, a grinding roller eventually scores the track and you’re replacing the frame section, not just the part.
• The sash doesn’t stay up on a single-hung. The balance system, which is the spring-loaded mechanism inside the frame, has lost tension or broken. This is common on Mr-Glass 7000 Series windows that are ten years old or more. It’s also the point where DIY gets risky.
• The frame corner joints are separating. This one is structural. You’ll see a visible seam open at a corner, usually on the bottom rail. Water gets in, the joint worsens, and eventually the window loses its seal completely. On impact-rated Mr-Glass units, a separated corner means the window no longer provides the protection it’s rated for.
• You feel a draft or see light around the sash edges when the window is closed. Weatherstripping has compressed or the sash shifted in its track. On older Miami homes with settled frames, this is surprisingly common and usually fixable with new weatherstripping and a track adjustment, not a full window replacement.

Some things you can safely check yourself: whether the lock is engaging, whether the track is blocked with debris, whether visible screws are loose on the handle or lock plate. Cleaning the track and tightening loose hardware fixes a surprising number of minor complaints.

But here’s where we draw the line. Balance systems on single-hung windows are under tension. The balance cartridge inside a Mr-Glass 7000 Series frame holds a coiled spring that can release suddenly if you try to extract it without taking the tension off in the right order. Roller wheels on horizontal sliders are less dangerous but they’re fiddly, and getting the wrong size means the sash rides off its track.
