If your door carries a PGT label, we work on it. The most common Miami installs are the PGT WinGuard Series (aluminum and vinyl), the ClassicVue, and the newer PGT 5500/7700 lines. The compatibility gotcha most owners miss: PGT hinge and roller hardware is not universal across series. A WinGuard aluminum door built in 2014 takes a different roller assembly than a vinyl 5500 built in 2021, and mixing them creates exactly the sag-and-drag problem you’re trying to fix.

You’ll find the series name on the sticker near the door’s top edge or on the frame jamb. If the sticker is faded or painted over, roll the panel halfway and look at the roller housing: PGT stamps a two- or three-digit code there. A photo of that code, plus a measurement of the door slab width (usually 30″, 32″, or 36″ for single doors, wider for sliders), is enough for us to identify the right part before our first visit. For PGT specifically, we recommend OEM or equivalent-grade hardware rather than generic big-box rollers. PGT’s coastal-rated doors carry heavier glass packs than standard doors, and cheap rollers fail within a season under that load. Signs Your PGT Door Installation Is Failing

• Door drags or scrapes the threshold on the swing side. The hinge screws have pulled from the jamb, or the subfloor has settled. In Miami, we see this most in homes on fill lots or near canals, where the ground shifts more than owners expect.
• Sliding panel shudders or jumps along the track. Rollers are flattened or corroded. Salt air eats the bearings, and once one roller goes flat, the panel’s weight transfers to the others and they fail in sequence.
• Latch won’t catch, or you have to lift the handle to lock it. The strike plate is misaligned due to door sag. Forcing the lock over months strips both the latch and the plate, and one day it simply won’t hold.
• Air or water around the door edges, especially at the bottom corners. Weatherstripping and the threshold boot are worn or torn. This is the Miami giveaway: if you can feel a draft during a storm, water is already finding its way to the subfloor.
• Visible rust or peeling on any hinge, roller, or track component. Even stainless-coated hardware eventually surrenders to coastal air. Rust isn’t cosmetic on a PGT door; it signals structural fatigue and should be addressed before the next storm season.

Every one of these signs points the same direction: the door itself is likely fine, but the installed components around it are done. That’s usually a one-day fix with the right parts.
